SEIKO WRIST WATCHES
Seiko, as a company has been making fine quality watches since the year 1881 when Kintaro Hattori started the company. It went through growing pains as it moved into the next century making clocks and fob watches in the factory in Japan and making its first wrist style watch in the year 1913. Then in 1924 the first watch actually bearing the name Seiko was introduced and sold to the public.
The company split into several different entities such as the Daini Seikosha Company and Daiwa Kogyo, which later became Seiko Epson. Then in the year 1955 Seiko manufactured the first winding wristwatch that would its self to be made in Japan. A replica of that watch has been on display at the Smithsonian museum since 1999.
In 1969 Seiko introduced the world’s very first quartz watch, the 35SQ and the following year established its self as the Seiko Time Corporation in the United States. Next in 1973 they introduced the first ever six-digit digital display watch and in 1975 unveiled the first multi-function digital watch in the world.
In 1988 the Seiko Corporation second hand released the very first digital watch with a sweep second hand and they have continued to lead the development in the industry right into the year 2000 and beyond.
Today, Seiko has an outstanding line up of watches that draw heavily on its history of quality and style and innovative design. The current line consists of models called the Spring Drive, the Arctura line, the Velatura, the Premier and the Sportura. Each line is representative of the company’s rich heritage and offers both the dependability and reliability and the flair for design that the Seiko Company has become famous for.
The Spring Drive is solely powered by the internal spring, hence the name. It is a true beauty to look at and a pleasure to watch. It reflects the true movement of time and all the movement on this piece move in one direction seemingly in one fluid movement.
The Arctura line contains a lineup of many watches that are mostly along the feel of a kinetic finely crafted chronograph aimed primarily at the sports buff in all of us.
The Velatura line has fewer entries into the lineup but is still decidedly sports oriented but leaning much more towards the person that enjoys yachting and other aquatic boat related things.
The Premier line contains no less than eleven entries that are nothing short of pure elegance. Rugged looking yet very sophisticated.
The Sportura, as you might imagine, is aimed at the over all sports fan that enjoys out of door activity and likes to have an accurate way of keep track of time and time related things while he or she is doing them.
In the industry today, few things can bring about the feeling of quality just with the mention of the name. Seiko is one of the companies who’s reputation can stand the test of time and a company that instills confidence just through the mention of the name.
